ASAAL believes an active, educated, motivated, and mobilized South Asian American work force can become a strategic partner of the labor movement, politicians, and elected officials. The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL), is the first and only national organization of the South Asian diaspora living in America and around the world. Our vision is to increase the culture of civic engagement and participation while increasing the activism of South Asian Americans in every field possible. ASAAL believes an active, educated, motivated, and mobilized South Asian American work force can become a strategic partner of the labor movement, politicians, and elected officials. Our vision is to create Chapters in every State in the United States of America and go internationally. We must reach to all power houses in the nation and across the globe thus gaining access locally, nationally, and globally. We want a representative voice at the table at all levels of decision-making that affects our community. From the community board to the union hall, from the chambers of elected officials to the corporate board room we demand dignity and respect for the South Asian American community in general and for the individual in particular. We must increase the participation of South Asian voters, by testifying at the Board of Elections in support of introducing majority spoken languages on the Election Ballot under section 203 of the Federal Voting Rights Act and have an option for interpreters for the remaining spoken languages by the remaining communities. Thus creating employment opportunities for hundreds of South Asian Americans on Election days and beyond. We are building coalitions by working with hundreds of other labor, faith, socio-economic, and community based organizations in our cities in demanding equal opportunity, fairness, and justice for all. We are insisting that all South Asians from Accountants and Bookkeepers to Zookeepers; from Small Business owners to Wall Street Investors; and from our community activists to its leaders, join the ASAAL movement by becoming a member to be partners in the struggle ahead and take leadership in bringing our families, friends, and neighbors together for a brighter future for all.

The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL), was founded in 2008 and by 2022 we have 18 chapters in ten States including nine Chapters in New York State and a chapter in each of New Jersey, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, California, and Washington DC. On June 13, 2017 we officially became a constituency group of the New York State AFL-CIO. The New York State AFL-CIO is a federation of 3,000 affiliated public sector, private sector, and building trade unions throughout the state, representing 2.5 million members, retirees and their families, the most powerful labor organization in New York State and the largest State Federation of the AFL-CIO in the United States of America. With this honor our mission is partially realized. Our mission is to continue to contact all those individuals who are already a member of a labor union and encourage them to get interested in their respective unions and make them involved in promoting the Labor Movement and motivate the rest of the South Asian Americans to join a union job and form a union where there is no union at their workplace and lastly to merge the rest of the community with their issues as labor demands whenever possible. ASAAL believes an active mobilized South Asian American community can become a strategic partner and associate of the American Political system. ASAAL will pursue the objective of integrating South Asian Americans into the labor movement and political system by being involved in the nonpartisan electoral process. We pledge to work in coalition with organized labor and other allies who have lead us for so long. On many issues we are working with the local chapters of the Coalition of Black Trade Unions (CBTU), Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), and The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). ASAAL has one of the most vigorous endorsement processes in any regular election. If we decide on a candidate we are there for him/her to win the race. Our dedicated volunteers, use their hard work, and sacrifice in door knocking, handshaking, and phone banking our endorsed candidates love the most. Our telephone listings and e-mail addresses are long and impressive. We can use these extensive lists that we have created and ask everyone to vote for our chosen candidates and thus win most of the offices. We have made history on November 2, 2021, by helping elect three South Asians in New York City including the first Bangladeshi as a Civil Court Judge and one as a City Council Member. On May 22, 2018, we helped elect a South Asian of Bangladeshi origin as the State Senator from the Red State of Georgia (GA). In 2012 we helped elect Grace Meng as the 1st Asian Congresswoman from the East! We have helped many other South Asians and our friends from other communities get elected as legislators across the country!
