Our Purpose

The Purpose of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) is to insure fairness, respect, dignity, and opportunity for advancement in every sphere of life including the workplace for all South Asian workers. ASAAL realizes that without an independent voice unique to the needs of the South Asian American the chance of recognition, representation, and opportunity to fulfill one's dream is remote. A free and progressive movement in the 21st century should and must reflect greater participation of South Asian Americans at every level and have the South Asian workforce to advance in their respective workplaces in public or private.

Our Vision

The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL), is the first and only national organization of the South Asian diaspora living in America and around the world. Our vision is to increase the culture of civic engagement and participation while increasing the activism of South Asian Americans in every field possible.

Our Mission

The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL), was founded in 2008 and by 2022 we have 18 chapters in ten States including nine Chapters in New York State and a chapter in each of New Jersey, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, California, and Washington DC.

Why Asaal

As the largest labor based community organization, we are looking for candidates to join our team who will bring innovatiive memthods and cutting edge ideas to help grow our diverse mebmerships base, support oworkers rights and engineers, scientists, Doctor, self-employed, non-profit employees

Services

ASAAL will continue to insist that South Asian Workers, from Bookkeepers to Zookeepers and from community members to leaders, become full partners in the struggle ahead and take leadership in bringinig our families, frieds, and our communities to the future. We wecome your active participation.

Advocacy

From our inception we are taking action that speaks in favor of, recommends, argues for a cause, supports an issue or defends a matter, or pleads on behalf of our community. As a labor based community organization we give voice to the voice- less, we are for the least, for the lost and for the last. We help domestic abuse victims who feel too afraid to speak for themselves to those who fall victim in an area within our reach!.

Guidance

Our guidance means to advise or provide information by a person of experience, to solve a problem or improve on something. It refers to the process of helping individuals to discover and develop their own potential. With our guidance many were able to be successful in their field and many were established in their life. Sometimes a simple word can take someone far and wide in their future.

Organizing

Organize the unorganized. Community organizing is what we do the best, in which we bring communities together to act in their shared self-interest. It is the establishment of effective authority relationships among members, persons and within work places and locations. Our group is to work together effectively in motivating others in the community to join them to be part of mainstream politics.

Voter Registration

Voter registration is one of the most important tasks we do as an organization. Every year in every chapter we register 100s of citizens as a registered voter. In the State of New York they offer online voter registration. One can register by mail a voter registration form, and mailing it to your local election office. You can also register to vote in person if you prefer. Please follow the voter registration guide line in your state.

Campaigning

We campaign on an issue that is important for our community. Through our Screening Committee we select candidates through a vigorous screening process. We know what a difference it makes when we elect leaders who have our backs. For our endorsed candidates we put our boots on the ground, knocking doors, handshaking and talking to the voter, phone banking, bringing out the voter on election days to win the position.

Job Fairs

Our goal is to increase the culture of civic engagement and participation while creating employment opportunities for South Asian American workers in any field possible. We always strive to help our community to grow and prosper and we know without proper information, guidelines, advice, and related education it will remain difficult for new immigrant South Asians to get a good paying job with benefits.

Coalition Builder

Since our inception we have worked with hundreds of other labor, faith, socio-economic, and community based organizations throughout the country in demanding equal opportunity, fairness, and justice for all. Our work with the 2010 and 2020 census was highly recognized by all. We are fighting with coalition partners every day for the community whether it is to

ASAAL seeks to fulfill the dream of those South Asian American Laborers who are struggling to establish their voices to be heard, their issues to be discussed, their courage to be recognized and their leadership to be accepted within the existing labor union movement and in the community they live. Group Benefits

After the 2010 and 2020 censuses our re-districting committee through numerous testimonies has helped in creating City Council, Assembly, and Senate Districts with higher South Asian populations where ever it was demographically possible.
